Neontetra, is a product of an Industrial Craft called Neon-bending. Paul has created the 3 dimentional structure of this mood lamp which breaks the 100 year old tradition of glass tube bending  in 2 Dimension. This 3 Dimensional look has been crafted using the geometry of a Tetrahedron. Possible in pink, blue, red, green and yellow hues Neon Tetra is sustainable: looks high tech, cold to touch & consumes lesser power compared to light bulbs.

Neontetra is an outcome of an effort to revive an “industrial craft” to bring home a custom designed mood lighting product. A worker skilled in this craft is known as a glass bender, neon bender or tube bender. The neon tube is manually assembled into individual custom designed and fabricated lamps. There are many dozens of colors available, determined by the type of glass tubing and the composition of the gas filling.

Neon sign manufacturing is a cottage industry and an eclectic art, and in most cases, is organized as a small family business. Even today, almost all neon tubes are hand made and labor intensive. The shop equipment used to fabricate signs is itself typically custom assembled from scratch from discrete parts by the craftsmen who will use the equipment.

Neon tube bending happens to be one of the endangered ones due to the influx of LED’s in the lighting industry. Automated mass manufacturing tecniques have evolved over time with technological advancements leaving less emphasis on hand-crafting techniques of production which require human skills.

How the idea came to Paul Sandip? “We felt it could be a good idea if some interesting lamps could be created. Hence got our hands dirty one Sunday. We shall refine the process further and add more designs to the collection. But thats gonna take some time.”
